Announcing the Third Annual Culture Club Scavenger Hunt

UPDATE 2:

Scavenger Hunt Winner Comes to Washington!

Every fall the Culture Club launches three online Scavenger Hunts. Participants can choose the French, Italian, or Spanish Scavenger Hunt. The answers are found in the rooms of the Culture Club. The winners of each hunt receive a tuition-free NCLRC summer institute of their choice. Be on the look-out for the Scavenger Hunt announcement in the September 2010 Culture Club.

The winner of this year’s Italian Scavenger Hunt was Brad Holtman. Brad is Professor of German at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.

As his prize, Brad chose Joan Rubin’s workshop, Developing Listening Comprehension. He summed up his experience as follows:

The two days spent with Dr. Joan Rubin were well worth it--very stimulating and engaging. I was happy to meet so many skilled colleagues in language education who are passionate about what they do. Language folks really are a cohesive bunch in that way. Our workshop group was living proof that a wide mix of cultures and languages coexisting and enjoying their differences is what this world needs to promote peace and understanding. From the professional standpoint, it was particularly interesting to me to hear the viewpoints of colleagues who train foreign service personnel, since they have their own spin on things and a number of issues that do not normally affect those of us in classroom settings. Thank you again, NCLRC.
