FREE: Free Resources for Every Educator

Participants will learn about free web resources from the National Capital Language Resource Center including assessments, newsletters, lesson plans, teaching guides, podcasts, webcasts, technology tutorials, workshops, and cultural teaching materials. Presenters will also provide extensive information on opportunities for professional development, grants and scholarships, and calls for papers.

Meeting the Connections Goal through Differentiated Instruction

This presentation describes how the Connections goal was implemented in a high school Spanish class through differentiated instruction in which students chose a discipline of personal interest to explore through the target language. Videoclips of student projects will be shown and discussed.
Survey of Schools Teaching Arabic as a Core Course, 2009

Since 2003 the NCLRC has been conducting surveys of K-12 schools teaching Arabic in the U.S. In addition to annually surveyed demographics about schools and students, the 2009 survey includes information about Arabic K-12 teachers and certification issues. Presenters and participants will discuss the significance of the findings and implications.
